Oklahoma OL transfer Nate Anderson commits to SMU
Oklahoma redshirt junior offensive lineman Nate Anderson committed to SMU, he announced on social media. The Mustangs quickly extended an offer to the former four-star prospect after he entered the portal.
Anderson appeared in all 12 games for the 2023 season as a reserve lineman after appearing in four during the 2022 season. In 2020, Anderson did not play then in 2021 he didn’t see action either.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Anderson was the No. 113 overall prospect in the country and No. 15 offensive tackle in the nation in 2020.

Anderson keeps SMU’s transfer portal momentum going
Anderson joins West Virginia defensive tackle Mike Lockhart, Miami EDGE Jahfari Harvey, Georgia defensive lineman Jonathan Jefferson and Oregon wide receiver Ashton Cozart as commitments for SMU from the NCAA Transfer Portal. The window for transfers opened on Dec. 4 and the Mustangs are hard at work hoping to assemble a quality roster for their first season of ACC play in 2024.

The portal has been around since Oct. 15, 2018 and the new calendar cycle within the portal begins each August. For example, the 2021-22 cycle started Aug. 1. During the 2020-21 cycle, 2,626 FBS football players entered the transfer portal (including walk-ons). That comes after 1,681 entered during the 2019-20 cycle and 1,709 during the abbreviated 2018-19 cycle. In comparison, 1,833 Division I basketball players entered the portal during the 2020-21 cycle after totals of 1,020 in 2019-20 and 1,063 in 2018-19.
