SMU is set to take on TCU this week, but the Mustangs did have a huge non-conference matchup last weekend against Maryland. The Mustangs fell, 34-27, for their first loss of the season.

What happened in the game that led to the loss and what needs to happen for this week’s Battle for the Iron Skillet? Billy Embody breaks it down on another edition of the On The Pony Express Podcast.

SMU looking for quick reset after tough loss to Maryland

SMU did lose some key players like safety Bryan Massey and wideout Jordan Kerley to injury against Maryland. Add in a late arrival back in Dallas and the Mustangs will have to quickly turn the page to Saturday’s 11 a.m. CT kickoff against the Horned Frogs.

“We’ve got a short turnaround. We’re beat up. Hopefully we can get healthy and have a big one next week Saturday morning,” SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee said. “I’m not worried about our guys one bit. They’re going to have a good week. They’re going to be ready to play. We’ve got a really good opponent coming in. They had a week off, we’re going to get home about 5 a.m. and we’re going to rest up and we’re going to get ready to go and go compete next Saturday.”
