“We knew we were going to be running the ball, coach Lashlee told us we’d be running,” Lavine said after the game. “Honestly, didn’t expect that big of a load but it was fun to do it. It’s something I’ve prepared myself for this whole season. I was excited to do it and glad I could contribute to the team as much as I could.”
“Running the football, it’s physical, it’s a mindset and (he) brings it,” SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee added of Lavine. “He was going to play regardless. It was going to be a lot of Camar and him. We knew Velton (Gardner) could spell Camar (Wheaton) too. When Camar got dinged up, it was more Velton and Tyler. But you saw it, when he gets rolling he’s a load. I wouldn’t want to tackle him.”
SMU faces Houston on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT inside Ford Stadium on NFL Network.
