Purdue Boilermakers defensive lineman Damarjhe Lewis (34) watches the Ohio State Buckeyes players warm up ahead of the NCAA football game, Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Ind. Ohio State Buckeyes won 41-7.

Purdue defensive tackle Damarjhe Lewis, who began his career at Indiana University, spent the past four years with the Boilermakers. Now, he’s committed to SMU, he announced on Saturday.

The Mustangs hosted him for a visit Thursday that wrapped up Friday, sources confirm to On3.

His career has been riddled with injuries, but he’s got plenty of upside, if he pans out. The 6-foot-3, 300-pound native of Griffin, Ga., has one season of eligibility remaining.

Lewis visited Louisville, Texas A&M and USC already and SMU also hosted fellow Purdue defensive tackle transfer Jeffrey M’ba. M’ba, who is expected at USC this weekend, saw action in 24 games with the Boilermakers, making 46 total tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack.

Lewis was also sidelined for a portion of fall camp before the 2024 season. He ended up playing five games and had 14 tackles, three tackles for a loss and a block. In 2022, he missed the season with an injury. In 2023, he played in the first two games before sustaining an injury.

Lewis, the 3-AAAAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 for Griffin High, did not see any game action in 2020 at Indiana. He then left for Purdue where he played in 12 games, made three starts, and finished with eight tackles, three solo stops, and one tackle for a loss in 2021.
