Recap: SMU escapes Duke with a 28-27 win
SMU beats Duke in an absolute chaotic, 28-27, win. The Mustangs battled until the end and as a result, they move to 7-1 (4-0) on the season. Here is how SMU’s road win unfolded:

10/26/2024, 10:48:32 PMSomehow the Mustangs come out on top! The SMU defense gets the stop on the two point conversion and the Mustangs escape Durham with a 1-point win. The Mustangs advance to 7-1 (4-0) after an incredible 28-27 win.
Brashard Smith is a star

Duke misses another chance for the win

Duke misses field goal
10/26/2024, 10:16:50 PMDuke misses a 42-yard field that would have given the Blue Devils a 24-21 lead. Instead, SMU gets the ball back at the 25-yard line with just over 5 minutes to go.
Kevin Jennings injured

Duke ties the game
10/26/2024, 9:59:41 PMThe SMU defense struggled to stop the run and the pass on that drive as Starr Thomas finds the end zone. Duke goes for two and coverts to tie the game. 21-21 with 9:02 left in regulation.
End of 3rd quarter

Duke responds with a score
10/26/2024, 9:40:19 PMDuke drives down the field and cuts the SMU lead back to one possession. Maalik Murphy finds Jordan Moore for his second passing touchdown of the night. SMU now leads 21-13 after the missed PAT with 2:11 left in the 3rd quarter.

10/26/2024, 9:32:30 PMJust moments after Roderick Daniels Jr. was stopped at the 1-yard line on a deep pass, RDJ leaves no doubt on his next catch and takes it 81 yards for a touchdown. SMU now leads 21-7. Some much needed breathing room for the Mustangs with 4:58 left in the 3rd quarter.
HALFTIME: SMU leads Duke, 14-7
10/26/2024, 8:36:35 PMAfter a slow start from the Mustangs, SMU put together back-to-back touchdown drives to come from behind to take the lead. The Blue Devils will get the ball to start the second half trailing by. a touchdown. Plenty for Rhett Lashlee to talk about during halftime – good and bad.

10/26/2024, 7:31:39 PMAfter a bunch of short, quick passes from Maalik Murphy, the Duke QB throws one deep down field and connects with Que’Sean Brown for the 43-yard touchdown. Blue Devils lead 7-0 with 2:38 remaining in the 1st quarter.
Duke gets aggressive, but it does not pay off
10/26/2024, 7:18:36 PMThe Blue Devils went for it on 4th and 6 on the SMU 40-yard line, but Murphy’s pass falls incomplete after some nice coverage from Ahmaad Moses. SMU will get the ball back with 6:59 to go in the 1st quarter, the score is 0-0.
Mustangs turn the ball over in the red zone
10/26/2024, 7:12:54 PMAfter driving down the field and getting the ball inside the 10-yard line, Jennings and Johnson have a sloppy read and fumble the ball. Duke takes over at their own 8-yard line.
