SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee met with the media on Wednesday to preview the Mustangs taking on Prairie View A&M plus, looked back on the Oklahoma game. Watch his interview at the top of the page.

After a tough loss and before a huge opponent in TCU, SMU must circle the wagons and not overlook Prairie View A&M.

“We’re going to find out, you know. I’m not worried about it,” Lashlee told reporters. “I think Jake Bailey talked to the guys after practice about urgency and respecting everyone and it’s hard to win in college football. Look, we didn’t win last week, we want to win and e want to play well. Those are really the priorities and in order to win, we’ve got to play well.”

The Mustangs are coming off a 28-11 loss to Oklahoma in Norman last week, where the Sooners scored the final 14 points of the ball game to pull away.

“Well, usually in an evenly matched game where the stats are about the same, the time of possession, the player on the field is similar, who makes the most mistakes?,” Lashlee said of SMU’s loss last week. “We had a punt blocked, gave them a short field, that scored a touchdown. We fumble the ball when we’re driving, we missed a field goal and then the last one, when you’re down 10 with five, six, seven minutes to go, you don’t have a choice and gave him a short field for that touchdown.

“So at the end of the day, there was three real critical errors — fumble, blocked punt, we missed the field goal — and they didn’t make those mistakes.”

This week, SMU faces Prairie View A&M in Gerald J. Ford Stadium at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+. Prairie View A&M lost to Abilene Christian last week, 45-16.
