SMU is without big man Samet Yigitoglu vs. Cal as the 7-footer was seen pregame with a shoulder wrap on while the Mustangs warmed up. He’s averaging 10.3 points per game in his freshman season.

Forward Yohan Traore got the start in his place against the Golden Bears. Traore enters Wednesday’s matchup averaging 7.6 points per game.

Samet Yiğitoğlu had a career-high 20 points in the win at NC State, going 4-for-4 on free throws in the final two minutes. He also had seven rebounds as SMU improved to 4-1 on the road in the ACC with the win in Raleigh, N.C. on Saturday.

“Very proud of him to go under pressure like that late in the second half,” SMU head coach Andy Enfield said after the game. “The fans were booing him and he was able to step up and make all four.”

Yigitoglu’s status for Saturday’s matchup in Moody Coliseum against Stanford is critical as the Mustangs welcome one of the top big men in America. Maxime Raynaud is the Pac-12’s Most Improved Player from last season. Entering Wednesday’s matchup vs. Syracuse, Raynaud is 10th nationally in scoring at 20.5 points per game and third in rebounding with 11.7 per night.

He leads the ACC in scoring and rebounding, and his 16 double-doubles this season pace the nation. No other player in the country has more than 14 and no other major conference player has more than 11.

This story will be updated with Enfield’s postgame comments on Yigitoglu’s status.
