San Jose State DB transfer Rocket Rahimi signs with SMU
San Jose State defensive back transfer Rocket Rahimi has signed with SMU, On3 learned on Thursday. He’ll have one season of eligibility remaining.
He was a one-time Mustang commit back in January 2023, but he sat out the 2023 season before having a stellar 2024 campaign. The California native played one season with the Spartans and earned All-Mountain West Second-Team honors after previously spending time at Liberty and Saddleback College before that.
During the 2024 season, the 6-foot-1, 204-pound senior finished with 82 tackles (47 solo), five interceptions, five pass breakups and one sack. He recorded five interceptions in 2022 as well but did not play in 2023 due to injury.
While playing San Jose State and Liberty, Rahimi recorded 160 tackles (85 solo), 11 interceptions, seven pass breakups and 1.5 sacks over three seasons.

In 2022, Rahimi had a terrific final season for the Flames, notching 56 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions and a fumble recovery.
SMU assistant Rickey Hunley recruited Rocket Rahimi all the way back when the Mission Viejo, Calif. native was in high school at Cornerstone Christian. He played two seasons at Saddleback C.C. before joining Liberty in 2021.
In 2021, he finished with 22 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, an interception and a forced fumble in 13 games.
