North Carolina guard Seth Trimble is having a fantastic 2024-25 campaign, but has missed the last three games due to an upper body injury. UNC head coach Hubert Davis shared the latest on the ACC Basketball Coach’s Teleconference.

“He practiced yesterday,” Davis said Monday morning ahead of facing SMU. “Did one full contact drill, but I haven’t spoken with him today and we have practice at 3 so I’ll have more of an update after practice today, but he did practice yesterday.”

Seth Trimble is averaging career highs across the board with 14.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.8 steals. He’s shooting 47.9 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from three, and 84.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Trimble’s replacement in the starting lineup has been fantastic. With 27 points vs. Notre Dame on Saturday, Ian Jackson became the first Tar Heel freshman since Tyler Hansbrough in 2005-06 to have four straight games with at least 20 points.

Davis has called this UNC team the quietest that he’s been around. He’d like to see them communicate better, but he does like the team’s versatility that the roster gives him.

“That’s one of the things I do like about this team is the versatility so that we can go super small with RJ, Elliott, Ian, Seth or we can go bigger and just like you said with Cade at 6-7, 6-8 at the 3 then having J-Whitt at the 4,” Davis said. “That’s the type of versatility that we have that we can change lineups depending who we’re playing.”

After a lackluster non-conference run for the ACC, Davis was asked about the status of the league for postseason play. With the Tar Heels 9-6 overall and 2-1 in ACC play, his team has to worry about itself.

“I’m not really thinking about that. I’m thinking about SMU,” Davis said. “I’m thinking about the improvement of our team, our guys just continuing to get better and just for us to reach our full potential as a team. That’s really the only thing you have control over is how good you can become. At the end of the day, if you max out and you become the best team that you can possibly become then the results will end wherever they go.

“I try to focus on the things we have control of and that’s our improvement and our preparation for SMU on Tuesday night.”

When SMU takes on UNC in Chapel Hill Tuesday night at 8 p.m. CT, Seth Trimble’s status will be something to watch as the Mustangs look to bounce back after the loss to Duke.
