SMU Basketball has landed former San Jose State and Arizona wing TIbet Gorener, a source told On The Pony Express on Wednesday. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining.

The 6-9, 205-pound Turkish-born player started all 32 games last year, averaging 11.4 points while shooting 39.5 percent from the field. He averaged 3.9 rebounds per game. Goerner is the all-time Spartan leader in three-pointers made with 174.

The Mustangs needed to upgrade the wing position with Samuell Williamson and Ja’Heim Hudson moving. Gorener checked that box in a big way.

Gorener began his career at Arizona, playing in just eight games in the 2020-21. After transferring to San Jose State, he started 55 of 96 games played for the Spartans. For his career, he’s averaged 7.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting 37 percent from the field.

With Gorener on board, SMU now has transfer commitments from seven players. Oregon guard Kario Oquendo, Long Beach State guard AJ George and Wake Forest point guard Boopie Miller are committed to the Mustangs. UMass forward Matt Cross, UC Santa Barbara big man Yohan Traore and Kansas State big man Jerrell Colbert round out the forward additions.
