SMU visits North Carolina State on Saturday for their first meeting as ACC foes on the CW at 11 a.m. CT in Raleigh, N.C. The Mustangs face one of the top names in the league, looking to bounce back from a rough loss suffered Tuesday in Dallas to Louisville.

“Well, we were playing very well, we had just won three games in a row,” SMU head coach Andy Enfield said after the game. “We were playing very well together. And as I said, we played very hard in the last three games. We played very well, we scored a lot of points in two of those games. Defensively, we were doing what we needed to do. And so this is surprising, it’s surprising to us, the coaching staff. I’m sure our players are surprised that we didn’t play better tonight. And our fans, we had great support tonight, and we’re disappointed that we didn’t perform to the level that we expected ourselves to.”

After another big game where SMU suffered an ugly setback, forward Matt Cross didn’t mince words Tuesday night. Cross had 18 points to lead SMU in the 98-73 loss to Louisville.

“You’re not going to hit shots every night. I don’t know if that’s what it was to me,” Cross said. “At some point you have to get sick and tired of getting pushed around on the boards, on the ball screens. At some point you get sick and tired of that and have to get it done. rebounding on the defensive end. Even if you’re not scoring, you can stop the [other] team from scoring.

“We have to know that in practice and in games that every time a team pushes us, the hands can’t go in the air every time. If they are going to hit you, why can’t you hit them? At some point pride has to set in for all of us. That’s not [me] pointing fingers, that starts with me and every single person on the team.”

SMU and NC State are meeting for the third time. Each team won a home game in the series to this point. The Wolfpack upset No. 4 SMU 82-78 in overtime in Raleigh on Feb. 9, 1985. The Mustangs scored an upset in Dallas, 59-57, over No. 16 NC State on Dec. 3, 1988.
