The SMU Mustangs take on the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT on TNT/MAX in the first round of the College Football Playoff. ESPN has subleased some of the playoff matchups to TNT, which is why the Mustangs will be shown on the channel.

Weather wise, it’ll be one of the colder games the Mustangs have ever played. Currently at Beaver Stadium, Weather.com calls for the following forecast: “Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 27F. Winds NW at 10 to 20 mph.”

SMU is more than a touchdown underdog as the 11-seed. Penn State is an 8.5-point favorite at FanDuel. The total is 53.5 points.

How to watch SMU at Penn State

Venue: Beaver Stadium in State College, Pa.
Kickoff time: 11 a.m. CT
TV: TNT
On the call: Mark Jones (play-by-play), Roddy Jones (color commentator), and Qunt Kessenich (sideline reporter).

SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee knows it’ll be chilly for his mostly Texas team, but he said Penn State has to work with the conditions as well. Snow hit the ground in State College on Friday ahead of the matchup.

“The weather is only gonna be an issue if we allow it to be an issue,” Lashlee said this week. “So we know it’s gonna be really cold. It’s gonna be really cold for them as well. So it’s our 11 vs their 11, and that’s gonna decide the game.”

Penn State head coach James Franklin is hoping for a good showing for Saturday’s “White Out” that Beaver Stadium will deploy against the Mustangs. The largest venue in the College Football Playoff could be a weapon against SMU.

“Our students make a huge difference for us, and obviously being after finals and things like that makes it a little bit challenging,” Nittany Lions coach James Franklin said this week. “So that’s a little bit of a concern. And then obviously it’s a home game for us, but to your point, the College Football Playoff pretty much runs everything else. So it will not feel like it normally feels to us playing a home game in Beaver Stadium. But overall, in general, obviously, we’re glad and fortunate to be home. So we’ll take it. This is the structure that exists and we’re going to embrace it and move forward.”
