SMU Basketball injury update: Latest on Matt Cross after Tarleton State game
SMU Basketball cruised to a 96-62 win over Tarleton State on Monday in Moody Coliseum to kick off the Andy Enfield era. A potentially key injury did pop up for the Mustangs though and the team was short another player.
Forward Matt Cross played 1:09 for the Mustangs, missing one shot. While on the floor, his back “tightened up” and Enfield brought him out. Cross returned to the bench in the 2nd half in street clothes.
“He had some back spasms, which just happened. We went to him the first play of the game,” Enfield told reporters. “Post up, but I think there (was) a little contact and he must have stepped the wrong way and back tightened up on him. Hasn’t happened all preseason so it’s unusual.”
Point guard Boopie Miller exited with cramps and is taking fluids in to get ready for Thursday’s matchup against Florida A&M at 7 p.m. CT in Moody Coliseum on ACCNX.

SMU freshman big man Mitchell Holmes, who did not play Monday night, will be back in the “next few days,” Enfield said. Holmes is dealing with an undisclosed injury that left him out the last “five, six days,” Enfield said.
SMU big man Samet Yigitoglu is unavailable to play in games as of now as the NCAA continues to work toward a resolution for his eligibility with the university.
“SMU Athletics is continuing work through the NCAA on Samet Yiğitoğlu’s eligibility,” the school said in a release. “While the process is taking longer than we had hoped, we remain confident of his amateur status and hope that a resolution will come soon. While he continues to practice with our team, until he is cleared to play, he is unable to participate in games.”
