SMU checks all the boxes for 2024 OL Graham Uter
2024 Daphne (Ala.) Bayside Academy offensive lineman Graham Uter committed to SMU, he announced on Instagram after his official visit. For Uter, it was an easy call for him to pick the Mustangs.
“The coaching staff has proven to make players better and they are dedicated to rebuilding a winning football program,” Uter told On3. “I like the teammates I met. The culture was great. SMU has great academics. It checks all the boxes for me.”
The official visit included time around his future position coach, offensive line coach Garin Justice. With Justice’s tutelage plus the new Garry Weber Endzone Complex opening in 2024, Uter sees a path toward being developed the right way.
“We ate a ton of great food. I got to watch a workout and spend more 1-on-1 time with all the coaches,” Uter said. “After watching Coach Justice show us film and seeing how linemen have developed under him, I knew it was the right place. The new facility will be open when I’m a freshman so that’s a big plus too.

SMU’s current players also were open with Uter about why the Hilltop was the place for him to be.
“The recruits spent some time with some players and that really helped me see how authentic the culture is. The players definitely have a ton of respect for the coaches.”
Uter is the third pledge for the Mustangs in the 2024 recruiting class, joining quarterback Tyler Aronson and athlete Jamyri Cauley.
