SMU commit Randy Reece now a 2-time state champion
2023 Dallas (Tex.) South Oak Cliff wide receiver Randy Reece watched his team from the sidelines on Friday capture a second straight state championship. The Golden Bears beat Port Neches Grove 34-24 in a comeback win.
While Reece injured his knee in the playoffs, he was still there to root them on.
“It was heartwarming,” Reece told On3. “It was good knowing my boys had my back even though I wasn’t playing. It was good. I told them to just play for me. I’m a hard worker so just think of me every time you go down. Get back up and keep going, don’t stop.”
At halftime, SOC had to circle the wagons. The message was simple to his team. Randy Reece was overcome by emotion as the Golden Bears grabbed that win.
“We were just playing the same game, just had to stay focused. Stay locked in and come back in the 2nd half and play football,” he said. “Man, it was wonderful. I almost dropped some tears over there. It was wonderful watching my boys come back on that win.”

To get another state title for Dallas is a big deal for Reece, who will be back to cheer on fellow SMU commit Jaden Milliner-Jones on Saturday.
“It’s great. You going to hear my mouth until I make college,” Reece said. “I’m talking my mess. Now we’ve got to come back tomorrow and cheer my boys from Duncanville and DeSoto on. We’ve got to cheer my boys on to bring it back to Dallas.”
According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Randy Reece ranks as the No. 232 overall wideout in the nation.
