SMU big man Samet Yigitoglu is returning to the Mustangs for the 2025-26 season, he announced on Instagram on Friday. The 7-footer from Turkey just finished up his freshman year on the Hilltop and is the final key piece for Andy Enfield to announce he’s coming back.

This season, Yigitoglu started 32 of 35 games, averaging 10 points, 6.2 rebounds and one block per game while averaging 53.5 percent from the field. He had three double-doubles this season.

His 53.5 percent from the field was good for 4th-best in SMU history for a freshman. Yigitoglu arrived at SMU just days before the start of the fall semester so this summer will be huge for his development.

Head coach Andy Enfield seemed to know that the Mustangs were going to be in good shape roster wise. In addition to Yigitoglu returning, point guard Boopie Miller and guard BJ Edwards announced their returns.

Enfield is excited about the incoming pieces, which includes a highly-ranked signing class and one transfer commit so far in Nana Owusu-Anane. Owusu-Anane is expected to fit into the 4-spot for SMU and bring a little bit more athleticism and defensive prowess to the floor.

“Well, we have an outstanding freshman class that’s signed to come here next year as freshmen. We’re high on all those guys,” Enfield said after the Oklahoma State loss ended SMU’s season. “We do lose five seniors, so we do have to replace some shooting, some scoring with Chuck and Kario and Matt, and then Keon and Tibet. Those guys give us great energy, and we try to have a complete roster next year.

“So the next month is going to be a grind recruiting and trying to evaluate and having players and their parents come for visits. But I don’t think we need too many. We’ll see how many players return on our existing roster and then try to fill in from there.”
