BREAKING: SMU flips Ahmaad Moses from UTSA on Signing Day
2022 Arlington (Tex.) Mansfield Summit safety Ahmaad Moses announced on National Signing Day that he was signing with SMU over UTSA, he said Wednesday. The 5-11, 200-pound defensive back had been committed to the Road Runners since January 13.
Moses pegged his official visit, the city of Dallas, SMU coaches and the potential for NIL opportunities as a big piece to why he picked the Mustangs.
“Knowing beyond football that they can help me with education, internships, NIL deals, just connections,” Moses told On3Sports. “Knowing the city I’ve been living in my whole life, I just felt like it was the best fit for me education wise and football wise that I’ve got to go to SMU.
“They showed me a lot from Life After Ball program, just different stuff like how the coaches put people in the league. It was just different stuff that made me think SMU was the best fit for me.”
According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average, Moses ranks as the No. 103 overall safety in the country and No. 188 overall prospect in Texas.

Where SMU’s 2022 recruiting class stands
Rhett Lashlee’s first class at SMU is a mix of high school and transfer additions. The Mustangs continue to mine the NCAA Transfer Portal for talent while prioritizing the Dallas area in recruiting.
In addition to Ahmaad Moses, SMU also reeled in eight early signees for the class of 2022 in Duncanville (Tex.) safety Pierre Goree, McKinney North (Tex.) defensive lineman Dylan Frazier, Washington (D.C.) St. John’s EDGE Isaiah Smith, Tatum (Tex.) EDGE Trey Fite, Lucas (Tex.) Lovejoy cornerback Jayden Lawton, Dallas (Tex.) South Oak Cliff quarterback Kevin Henry-Jennings, Arlington (Tex.) offensive lineman Jacob Waller, College Station (Tex.) A&M Consolidated offensive lineman Rhett Larson, Southlake Carroll (Tex.) tight end R.J. Maryland, Prattville (Ala.) kicker Collin Rogers and Dallas (Tex.) Skyline defensive back Anthony Davis.
On the transfer front, SMU also added Minnesota linebacker Jaqwondis Burns, Illinois State linebacker Shanon Reid, Michigan State tight end Kameron Allen, Virginia offensive lineman Joseph Bissinger, Texas wide receiver Joshua Moore and former North Carolina wide receiver Beau Corrales. Burns, Reid, Allen and Corrales all enrolled at SMU in January while Bissinger and Moore will arrive in the summer.
