SMU finished with the No. 2 2023 recruiting class in the AAC, according to On3. With National Signing Day in the books for Rhett Lashlee & Co., the Mustangs finished with 16 signees.

Here’s the rundown on who the Mustangs inked and how they became a part of Lashlee’s first full class.

Lucas (Tex.) Lovejoy WR Jaxson Lavender: The first commit for SMU in this class came under Sonny Dykes, but Lavender reaffirmed his pledge to the Mustangs and never wavered. The speedy slot can do numerous things on offense and special teams. He’s an early enrollee who is already on the Hilltop.
On3 Consensus: No. 135 WR, No. 159 overall prospect in Texas.

Frisco (Tex.) LB Brandon Miyazono: The second commit of the class came from Miyazono, who played quarterback, tight end, linebacker and all over for Frisco. Miyazono is a physical, 6-2, 220-pound backer who Scott Symons sees as an under-the-radar prospect for the Mustangs. He arrives in June and will add depth to a somewhat thin linebacker room.
On3 Consensus: No. 170 linebacker, No. 270 overall prospect in Texas.

Dallas (Tex.) South Oak Cliff WR Randy Reece: A now two-time state champion, Reece brings some versatility being able to line up at running back or wideout, like current SMU wideout Roderick Daniels. Reece jumped on board in March and never wavered in wanting to stay home. A redshirt is likely as he tore his ACL in this year’s state playoffs.
On3 Consensus: No. 245 wide receiver, No. 250 overall prospect in Texas.

Dallas (Tex.) South Oak Cliff S Abdul Muhammad: A teammate of Reece, Muhammad announced his commitment at his spring game before the summer began. Muhammad played a rolled down safety role for SOC. He was the Defensive MVP of the 2021 state championship game. Muhammad arrives this summer on the Hilltop.
On3 Consensus: No. 160 safety, No. 267 overall prospect in Texas.

Houston (Tex.) Jersey Village OL Reagan Gill: Gill joined the class in June, a part of a run of commitments for the Mustangs. SMU pulled the interior offensive lineman out of the Houston area and with the depth on the offensive line, he’s likely to redshirt.
On3 Consensus: No. 109 OT, No. 274 overall prospect in Texas.

McKinney (Tex.) QB Keldric Luster: Luster transferred to McKinney for his senior season and continued to have success, this time in a pro-style attack. One of the area’s top signal callers, SMU got him on board in June as well. Luster brings an ability to pick up yards on the ground and through the air. He enrolls this summer.
On3 Consensus: No. 75 QB, No. 247 overall prospect in Texas.

Katy (Tex.) Paetow LB Alex Kilgore: Another early enrollee, Kilgore is expected to factor in right away for playing time at linebacker. SMU loses a trio of starters at the position and Kilgore’s athleticism is going to give him a chance to play early. A state champion in 2021, Kilgore has size already, but will fill out his 6-2, 200-pound frame with weight in the coming months. He’s the highest-ranked commit on the On3 Consensus.
On3 Consensus: No. 54 LB, No. 81 overall prospect in Texas.

San Antonio (Tex.) Central Catholic DL Braeden Flowers: SMU’s other early enrollee on the defensive side of the ball, Flowers stands around 6-2, 260. He’ll be able to push for time at defensive end early on, but he’s going to be more of a fit at defensive tackle long-term. He’s got NFL pedigree and is a multi-sport athlete who played all over for his Central Catholic team.
On3 Consensus: No. 165 LB, No. 266 overall prospect in Texas.

Austin (Tex.) Vandegrift DL Daemian Wimberly: Potentially the signee with the most upside, Wimberly brings a massive frame to the Mustangs. If SMU harnesses his athleticism and turns up his motor, Wimberly has a chance to be an NFL player. He’ll arrive in June, but adds plenty of talent early on at defensive end.
On3 Consensus: No. 77 DL, No. 120 overall prospect in Texas.

Port Saint Lucie (Fla.) Treasure Coast OL Alex Woods: One of SMU’s out-of-state signees, Woods’ brother played for offensive line coach Garin Justice at FIU. Woods is the latest to sign on to play for Justice and brings some size to the interior of the offensive line. He committed in late June over Troy and others.
On3 Consensus: No. 95 IOL, No. 138 overall prospect in Florida.

Valencia (Calif.) West Ranch OL Sean Scott: A prospect out of California dripping with potential, the 6-7, 265-pounder will need a redshirt year to add weight. Scott added a Cal offer late, but the Mustangs reeled him in thanks to great relationships. When it comes to diamonds in the rough, Scott could be one of those in the class.
On3 Consensus: No. 138 OT, No. 175 overall prospect in California.

Ft. Worth (Tex.) Timber Creek TE Lonnie JohnsonJohnson is a big-bodied wideout right now, but projects at tight end for the Mustangs. He enrolled early and will get into the strength and conditioning program with Shawn Griswold to add to his frame. The 6-3, 205-pounder could be a nice complement to RJ Maryland in the passing game. He held big offers in his recruitment, including ones from Oklahoma State, TCU and others.
On3 Consensus: No. 237 WR, No. 243 overall prospect in Texas.

Frisco (Tex.) Wakeland TE Tripp Riordan: Another prospect with a few huge offers on his resume, Riordan brings his 6-5, 245-pound frame to Casey Woods’ tight end room. SMU evaluated him, got him to camp and pressed for his commitment from there. The Mustangs needed a big body tight end who can help in the run game and Riordan is that future piece.
On3 Consensus: No. 56 TE, No. 189 overall prospect in Texas.

Wichita Falls (Tex.) Hirschi WR Jamarion Carroll: On3 named Carroll a 4-star prospect after reviewing his senior season. Carroll could be the next great ball-winner for the Mustangs. He’s competitive and has terrific athleticism. SMU’s wide receiver room returns multiple veterans, but if there’s a freshman who could break through, Carroll would be the bet.
On3 Consensus: No. 170 WR, No. 191 overall prospect in Texas.

Everman (Tex.) DL Kevin Allen: SMU’s late add during the early signing period, Allen logged 112 total tackles, 27.5 of which went for loss and 5.5 sacks as a senior. He was a finalist for the Landry Award, an impressive feat for a defensive lineman. Calvin Thibodeaux needed to add a big body in the middle of its defense and Allen fits that bill.
On3 Consensus: No. 114 DL, No. 190 overall prospect in Texas.

Miami (Fla.) Northwestern TE Adam Moore: A National Signing Day addition, Moore comes in as the third tight end in the signing class. He played wide receiver as a prep standout, but can be a true hybrid tight end for Lashlee’s offense. Moore held offers from all over and ended up visiting Syracuse right before signing day, but it was the Mustangs who won out.
On3 Consensus: No. 57 TE, No. 155 overall prospect in Florida.

Duncanville (Tex.) DB Lamodrick Spencer (unsigned): While Spencer did not officially sign a National Letter of Intent, he’s expected to at some point. The state champion still needs to clear admissions before being announced, having had to hold off on pledge to the Mustangs since the summer. Rickey Hunley adds a lengthy, but thin cornerback who locked down some of the state’s top wideouts. If he makes it in, he’s a good piece for the future at corner.
On3 Consensus: No. 138 S, No. 228 overall prospect in Texas.
