SMU releases Houston Christian game depth chart
SMU Football looks to move to 2-0 on Saturday in its Week 1 matchup against Houston Christian at 7 p.m. CT. Below is a look at the updated depth chart for the Mustangs, who made changes after their Week Zero win over Nevada.
Head coach Rhett Lashlee said there’s plenty to correct from the 29-24 comeback win, but the important part is that SMU got the win. What’s next is putting in the work to get ready for HCU.
“Go to work. There’s no secret formula. We get up, we practice,” Lashlee told reporters Tuesday. “We came in on Sunday and did what we do. We came in (Monday), installed the game plan. We had a good physical Tuesday practice this morning. There’s no excuse we didn’t play well, but first games are tough. I think last year Kansas won nine games. They went on the road there as a 28-point favorite and won by seven. Would have been the exact same score if we got the two-point conversion. We won. It’s hard to win.
“We didn’t necessarily play our best for a good half of the game, but I think our guys know what it takes to be a good team. I think they feel like we can be a good team. We’ve got to go prove that we can consistently do it for four quarters. But there’s no panic button being pushed here. Like I said, we’re 1-0.”
