SMU’s ACC move already paying off

When SMU made the move to the ACC, the exposure brought was one of the reasons why the school was willing to sacrifice seven years of TV revenue to make the move. The school will bring in even more ancillary revenue thanks to the ACC.

“Becoming a member of the ACC will positively impact all aspects of the collegiate experience on the Hilltop and will raise SMU’s profile on a national level,” Chairman of the SMU Board of Trustees, David B. Miller, said in a release. “SMU is committed to excellence in everything we do, and this move will strengthen that commitment.”

When SMU opens the 2024 season, it’ll be the second year with improved concessions in Gerald J. Ford Stadium. Working with Aramark, the athletic department came up with an overhaul that cost the school nearly $2 million, per sources.

“Feedback’s been positive, and I anticipate that that will continue,” Hart said this month on the new-look concessions. “Now we’re implementing many of those changes in Moody as well. I think we’re where we need to be, but again, it’s never finished like anything else. We’ll continue to evaluate and evolve, but the Weber End Zone project will help. We’ll have a full-service kitchen for the first time ever in Ford Stadium, which is gonna help with quality and delivery and all those kinds of things. We feel, again, good about where we are and think that we have a model now that’ll serve everybody well.”

The top two teams based on conference winning percentage will compete in the ACC Football Championship Game on the first Saturday in December at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
