SMU set to host elite EDGE Smith Orogbo for official visit
SMU will host 2025 Alief (Tex.) Hastings EDGE Smith Orogbo, one of the nation’s premier prospects, for an official visit on May 17, he announced. SMU defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux and EDGE coach Sam Dunnam are leading the charge for the impressive prospect.
With 30 offers including Oklahoma, USC, Florida, Miami, Nebraska, Cal, Oklahoma State, and Missouri, it’s a who’s who of programs coming after him. He plans to visit Arizona State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech in the near future as well as Texas A&M on March 22 and Texas on April 6.
On3 recently moved him up into five-star range, ranking him as the No. 26 overall prospect in the country, the third-best EDGE prospect and eighth-ranked prospect in Texas.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder is a banshee on defense, tallying over 100 tackles and nine sacks as a junior. His production and motor stood out in big ways to the On3 team. His production as an EDGE defender is ridiculously impressive at any level of football.

Oregon coach getting NFL buzz
“Two of the most important traits for any EDGE defender is their ability to burst off the snap of the football and consistently play at 100mph for all four quarters,” On3 national scout Cody Bellaire said. “Smith Orogbo possesses both of these traits and has the production to match. His combination of balance, body control and closing speed makes him a complete menace in space and essentially impossible to lay a hand on as an opposing offensive linemen. And at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds with extraordinary length, he has plenty of room to physically develop and add mass to his frame while maintaining his athletic prowess.
“The biggest question for Orogbo at this point is his raw power, but as he continues to add mass and develop functional strength, he will naturally become more powerful at the point of attack and turn into a force against the run. The arrow is pointing up for Orogbo and we believe he will continue to trend that direction for quite some time.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Orogbo is the No. 78 overall prospect in the country and No. 10 EDGE nationally. Houston leads the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
