SMU moved to 2-0 on the year with a 56-7 win over Houston Christian on Saturday night in Ford Stadium. Here’s the blow-by-blow recap of the game.
SMU got the ball first but could not get on the board on their opening drive. Mustangs punt the ball to HCU after a quick three-and-out.

Just after the SMU offense scored, Ahmaad Moses picked off Cutter Stewart. SMU gets the ball at their 41-yard line.
Kevin Jennings came in for the Mustangs on their third drive. Jennings led the team down the field and the drive resulted in a touchdown. After Jennings scrambled multiple times to put SMU inside the 5, it was Brashard Smith who punched in the touchdown from a yard away. SMU leads 13-0 in the 1st.
The Mustang defense continues to be dominant, forcing another 3-and-out against the HCU offense.
Jennings was back at QB for the Mustangs’ 4th drive. This drive was just as smooth as the last one. Brashard Smith caps off another excellent drive for the Mustangs with a 2-yard touchdown. Smith’s second touchdown of the game puts the Mustangs up 20-0 with 3:04 to go in the 1st quarter.
BIG BOY TOUCHDOWN! After Jahfari Harvey forces the fumble, Tank Booker Jr. scoops up the loose ball and takes it to the house for the score. Mustangs running rampant here – they lead 28-0 and it’s still the 1st quarter.
It is ALL Mustangs after the 1st quarter. SMU leads 28-0 and is cruise control.
Brashard Smith continues to be a problem. Smith eclipsed 100 yards rushing as the Mustangs scored again! Jake Bailey finds the end zone for the 1st time since 2022 as the Mustangs now lead 35-0. 13:42 to go in the 2nd quarter.
Houston Christian is on the board. After a nice throw from Stewart to find Ismael Fuller on a 3rd down to put the Huskies inside the 10, HCU punishes the SMU defense. Stewart to McMillan and HCU cuts into the SMU lead. Mustangs hold a 35-7 lead with 12:19 to go in the 1st half.
