SMU forward Xavier Foster enters NCAA Transfer Portal
SMU forward Xavier Foster entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 learned on Tuesday. He leaves after two seasons with the Mustangs.
He played in 14 career games with the Mustangs, averaging 2.4 minutes, .3 points and .4 rebounds per game. Foster played in just four games this season.
In 2020-21, Foster played in seven games for the Cyclones before a season-ending right foot surgery on Jan. 11 for an injury sustained in high school. The big man averaged four points and 1.7 rebounds in 7.8 minutes per game that year. He did not play in 2021-22 as he was dismissed from the team in October 2021, entering the transfer portal after that decision.
When he transferred to SMU, Foster also received interest from schools such as TCU, Cincinnati, Creighton, Dayton, Arizona State, and others.
In 2020 coming out of Oskaloosa (Iowa), Foster was a four-star prospect, ranking as the No. 84 overall prospect and No. 11 center nationally, according to the On3 Consensus. The On3 Consensus is a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He held offers from Iowa, Baylor, Providence, Virginia Tech and others.

SMU ushering in Andy Enfield era
SMU hired Andy Enfield to take over the program and lead it into the ACC. After leading USC for 11 seasons, Enfield is ready to lead the Mustangs and is excited about what he’s bringing to the program.
“This is a premier institution, university in the country academically, athletically,” Enfield said at his introductory press conference. “We have to get to that point in the men’s basketball program. So it’s a challenge to the coaching staff, a challenge to the players and everybody within our program. We all have to do this together. I don’t do anything by myself.
“I have great support staff as a head coach, I try to hire the best people possible to do that. Recruit players that want to be here, that want to work and want to elevate this program to the national level. And so, what that looks like is to be determined, but we’re excited to get started immediately.”
