SMU hires director of recruiting Kendal Lambert
SMU hired LSU assistant director of recruiting Kendal Lambert to be its next director of recruiting, a source told On The Pony Express.
Lambert, a 2021 graduate of the University of Alabama, spent the past year with Brian Kelly and the Tigers serving as recruiting operations coordinator. Prior to that, she landed on the other side of the Iron Bowl at Auburn for the 2022 season.
During her time as a student in Tuscaloosa, Ala., she was a student worker for Nick Saban’s program. SMU general manager J.R. Sandlin has added multiple staffers with ties to the Crimson Tide, where he worked early in his career.
LSU’s 2025 recruiting class is among the nation’s best, ranking inside the Top 5 nationally.
SMU’s seen some changes on the recruiting and scouting front, headlined by head coach Rhett Lashlee plucking Sandlin from Oklahoma. Baylor’s Connor Morgan joined the program earlier this offseason as well as director of player personnel.

SMU sits inside the Top 25 recruiting classes for 2025. To continue to improve on that, further alignment in that department was the goal.
“We’ve done a good job in scouting and recruiting in our first two years, and as we head into the ACC we have to continue to do everything we can to raise our level throughout the organization,” Lashlee said earlier this year. “Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program. We can never get too comfortable.”
