SMU will host Iowa State transfer Xavier Foster on an official visit April 29, according to a report from Matthew Bain of the Des Moines Register on Thursday. The report said Foster’s father, DaJuan, said they’re looking at one or two more visits before a decision in May.

Other schools who have shown Foster interest include: TCU, Southern Illinois, Cincinnati, Prairie View A&M, Missouri, Alabama A&M, Fordham, Florida International, Creighton, Kent State, Dayton, Charleston, Coastal Carolina, Utah Valley, Cal Baptist and Arizona State, according to Bain.

In 2020-21, Foster played in seven games for the Cyclones before a season-ending right foot surgery on Jan. 11 for an injury sustained in high school. The 7-footer averaged four points and 1.7 rebounds in 7.8 minutes per game that year. He did not play in 2021-22 as he was dismissed from the team in October 2021, entering the transfer portal after that decision.

Foster was a suspect in a 2020 sexual assault investigation. He was never charged and was cleared in February 2022, the Ames Police confirmed. Still, that was months after Iowa State coach T.J. Otzelberger dismissed Xavier Foster from the team for multiple reasons, not just the investigation.

“I understand everybody has a job to do, and I respect that,” Otzelberger said in a Des Moines Register story. “What I can say in regards to that topic is that it wasn’t one thing or a couple things that led to it. It was more of a culmination over time. Standards and accountability are important in our program. That’s all I’ll say on that topic.”

In 2020 coming out of Oskaloosa (Iowa), Xavier Foster was a four-star prospect, ranking as the No. 84 overall prospect and No. 11 center nationally, according to the On3 Consensus. The On3 Consensus is a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He held offers from Iowa, Baylor, Providence, Virginia Tech and others.
