SMU lands commitment from 2023 LB Braeden Flowers
SMU added another commitment to its 2023 class when San Antonio (Tex.) Central Catholic linebacker Braeden Flowers committed to the Mustangs on Wednesday.
“First off, I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity to play the sport I love,” Flowers wrote in his tweet. “Next, I want to thank my family and friends for always making sure that I do what’s best for me. To my teammates and coaches, thank y’all for always pushing me to the best of my abilities! But, the people I want to thank the most are my parents.
“My dad- for making me love the game of football and teaching me how to play. And my mom- for taking me to every practice and game, and always standing by my side. Since I was a kid, my dream was to go play college ball and follow in the steps of my dad, brother and cousin. From the first time I put a helmet on, I fell in love with it.
“With all of this being said, I will be committing to Southern Methodist University!”
Flowers picked the Mustangs after his official visit over the weekend. The three-star prospect on On3 held offers from UTSA, Houston, Washington State and others.
SMU defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux has built a good bond since offering Flowers in January.
“Love Coach Thibodeaux. I loved what he did at Oklahoma! I can’t wait to see what he does at SMU,” Flowers said. “I like just how his excitement is. How he coaches, he makes sure you understand before he will move on.”
