SMU will kick off at Memphis on Sat., Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2, the AAC announced on Monday. It’s shaping up to be a critical game with conference championship implications.

If the Mustangs can grab a win against North Texas on Friday, it’ll be an even bigger AAC matchup. Memphis is 7-2 overall like SMU, but sits with a 4-1 record in league play while SMU’s 5-0.

Being in the race like this is meaningful for SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee. For the Mustangs, it could be an opportunity to win a league championship before heading into the ACC.

A 36-31 win over Rice was another step in the right direction for the program. SMU, Tulane and UTSA are undefeated in AAC play this season.

“It means a lot. I think Brad says first 5-0 start in conference play since ’82 as well,” Lashlee said. “Look for us to do things that haven’t been done in a while, it always goes back to around ’82-84 There were some pretty good players here at that time. The running game and defense travels and we ran for 223 yards tonight. We were able to run when we needed to which is important.

“Again, they scored 31 points. So it’s kinda on the surface, but man they had 290 yards of offense. They were 2-of-12 on 3rd down. We did a lot of things right. Again, we put our defense in some tough spots with the special teams and the fumble at midfield, but that’s what it takes to win on the road. I think we’ve taken a lot of strides there and I think that’s why we’re able to win these games on the road.”

This weekend, the Mustangs take on North Texas at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2 in Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
