The SMU Mustangs rolled 66-42 over the TCU Horned Frogs Saturday in Gerald J. Ford Stadium. A short memory is necessary as Saturday, Rhett Lashlee’s team will play its first ever ACC game at 7 p.m. CT.

3-1 SMU welcomes the defending ACC Champions, the Florida State Seminoles, to Dallas. The 1-3 Seminoles led by Mike Norvell earned their first win of the season Saturday, defeating Cal, 14-9. It was a long time coming this season for Seminole fans, but FSU took the lead in the 4th quarter on a touchdown pass to wide receiver Ja’Khi Douglas from quarterback DJ Uiagalelei.

SMU opens as a 5.5-point favorite over FSU, according to FanDuel on Sunday. The over/under is set at 47.5. SMU is -210 and FSU is +172 on the moneyline.

For Lashlee, it was a major victory for him and his team. After a tough loss to BYU, SMU regrouped over the bye week and came out with a complete performance.

“I feel very humble just to get a win,” Lashlee said after SMU’s win. “You know, it’s hard to win. I’m relieved to get a win. Football is hard. It’s the greatest game there is. I’ve said it before, it’s the greatest team sport. Teaches you so much about life and, unfortunately, if you play it long enough you’re going to have to lose some. We haven’t lost a lot lately, and that’s good that we’re not used to it, but that one stung just because we felt like we let it, let it get away from us and then you had to wait 15 days.

“I’m just humbled to get to be here. I’m humbled to be the coach at SMU. I’m humbled to get to live in Dallas, coach those kids in that locker room. Our fans were incredible today. Like I said, this win is just a great win for our entire SMU family and the skillet is here in Dallas and I’ll probably be cooking with cast iron in the morning.”

SMU is 12-2 in last 14 games and is 10-1 in last 11 home games, which the Mustangs hope to keep going in the right direction against the Seminoles.
