SMU PG Boopie Miller announces return to the Mustangs

SMU point guard Boopie Miller is returning to the Mustangs, giving Andy Enfield’s program a huge piece back for the 2025-26 season. After announcing his decision Friday, he looks to build on a Third-Team All-ACC honor for his performance this season.

Miller averaged 13.2 points per game this season. The former Wake Forest transfer was fourth in the ACC with 5.5 assists per game and Top 10 in the league with 1.6 steals per game. His 2.50 assist-to-turnover ratio was good for third in the ACC and 44th in the country.

SMU lost Chuck Harris, Kario Oquendo, Tibet Gorener and AJ George off the roster. The Mustangs also return BJ Edwards in the backcourt after he announced his return recently.

Miller had a pair of late-game winners this season for the Mustangs. He hit a right-wing 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds left for a 54-52 win at Virginia on Jan. 15. He also hit a 10-foot running jumper with 2.1 seconds left for a 79-77 win over Cal Baptist in the Acrisure Hilday Invitational semifinal on Nov. 26.

SMU added Miller after he played for Wake Forest for a season. For Wake Forest, Miller averaged 15.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game during the 2023-24 season. The Chicago native shot 36.9 percent from three-point range while starting all 35 games for the Demon Deacons.

Miller transferred into the Demon Deacons program after playing the first two years of his career at Central Michigan. At Central Michigan, he averaged 13.8 points, 4.7 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game.

SMU finished its season with a 83-81 loss to Oklahoma State in the Second Round of the NIT. The Mustangs finished 24-11 overall and 13-7 in ACC play.
