SMU QB Preston Stone named Manning Award QB of the Week
SMU quarterback Preston Stone has been voted as the week nine Manning Award Quarterback of the Week, it was announced this week.
Stone completed 15-of-20 passes for 371 yards and threw three touchdowns in a 69-10 American Athletic Conference victory against Tulsa. The sophomore came out ready to play as he opened the game with a 74-yard touchdown delivery. That throw was one of many as he had a career-high for passing yards while only playing the first half.
The Dallas native was named the AAC Offensive Player of the Week for a second time this year. His performance helped keep the Mustangs unbeaten in conference games this season at 4-0 and bowl eligible for a fifth straight year with an overall record of 6-2.
This Saturday, the Mustangs will travel to Houston for a meeting with Rice for the Mayor’s Cup on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. (CST) on ESPNU.

Stone earned the honor over seven other Manning Award Stars of the Week in the Allstate Sugar Bowl’s online voting contest.
Stone also was named to the Davey O’Brien Award Class Of 2023 List, the organization announced on Tuesday. On Monday, Stone was selected as the National Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) for the first time in his career.
The Dallas native was named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Offensive Player of the Week for a second time this year. He earned honorable mention honors for the second time this season by the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.
