SMU safety Bryan Massey has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer On3’s Pete Nakos learned on Monday. The NCAA Transfer Portal window formally opens on Tuesday, but grad transfers can enter at any time.

Last season, Massey appeared in 11 games, totaling 30 tackles, a tackle for loss and a forced fumble. He was slotted in a backup role at safety and lost his kick return duties early in the season. Earlier in his career, it looked like he was going to be one of college football’s most explosive return men.

Instead, after the 2021 season in which he finished 12th in college football in kick return yards and 2nd with two kickoff returns for touchdowns, Massey battled injuries and wasn’t the same after an ankle injury sustained before the 2022 season.

He’ll have two years to play one season of college football remaining at his next stop.

If you find yourself asking, ‘How can I track transfer portal activity?’ our well-established network of reporters and contacts across college athletics keeps you up to speed in several ways, from articles written about players as they enter and exit the transfer portal or find their new destination, to our social media channels, to the On3 Transfer Portal.

The transfer portal wire provides a real-time feed of player activity, including basic player profile information, transfer portal ranking and original On3 Industry recruiting ranking, as well as NIL valuation (name, image and likeness).
