SMU-Tulsa gametime, TV coverage announced

SMU Homecoming Week is just a week away and now the kickoff time for the matchup against Tulsa is known. The Mustangs will face the Golden Hurricane at 11 a.m. on Sat., Oct. 28 on ESPNU, the AAC announced on Monday.
SMU beat the Golden Hurricane 45-35 last year in Tulsa, securing their first road win in the contest since 2009. The Mustangs lead the all-time series 16-13 as the pair of teams face off for the final time as AAC foes.
The Golden Hurricane lost to Florida Atlantic on October 7 before hitting a bye week. This week, Tulsa plays host to Rice on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2. Tulsa sits at 3-3 overall.
SMU takes on Temple on Friday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2, looking to move to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in AAC play.
SMU defense climbs into Top 25 in total yardage
The Mustangs sit at No. 19 overall in total defense, allowing 311.3 yards per contest. After another stifling performance on the road against ECU, SMU defensive back Jonathan McGill sees things coming together.

“I feel like we’re in a really good direction,” McGill said. “After the bye week, we had a chance to kind of self-scout ourselves and know that we’ve played well, but we’ve also had opportunities where we can play a lot better. We played good today, had opportunities to just play a lot better too as a defense. And so that’s one thing that’s kind of really fun and really good about it, that we’re performing right now, but we understand that we still have more room to grow.
“We feel like we’re heading in the right direction. We just have other games and stuff like that where we can, hopefully, keep improving.”
Now the Mustangs face a Temple team that got blown out by North Texas last week. Still, it’s tough to win on the road even as 18.5-point favorites like the Mustangs are entering Friday’s matchup at Temple.
“It’s very important because it’s hard to get a win on the road,” Chatman said of last week’s win over ECU. “Especially by 21, that’s very hard and you don’t see too many teams doing that that often. So it was very important. It could possibly set up our season for a championship and that’s ultimately what we want.”
