SMU vs. Boston College: How to watch, channel, streaming
Coming off of a big homecoming weekend victory over the top-25 Pitt Panthers and a bye week, the SMU Mustangs welcome 5-4 Boston College to Dallas for another must-win conference clash. Rhett Lashlee’s 8-1 squad has the top spot in the ACC as the only team that’s undefeated in conference play following Miami’s defeat at the hands of Georgia Tech on Saturday.
SMU’s stingy defense is taking on the Eagles’ top-50 ranked rushing offense, which posted 321 yards and three touchdowns in Week 11 against Syracuse. Boston College started the 2024 season by delivering a second loss to the highly-touted Florida State Seminoles, in a game that saw the Eagles rush for 263 yards.
BC is undergoing an official changing of the guard at quarterback this week. Former starter Thomas Castellanos opted to step away from the team after Eagles head coach Bill O’Brien confirmed that they would move ahead with backup Grayson James.
The SMU Mustangs enter the matchup against BC as a decisive 18.5-point favorite, according to FanDuel on Thursday. The line has shifted since the open from -15.5 to -18.5. The over/under total for the game is currently 53.5 points. Moreover, SMU’s moneyline to win is -1250, while Pitt’s moneyline is +740.

The Mustangs don’t have a lot of recent tape on new starter Grayson James, however, he played plenty of snaps before he transferred from FIU. During the 2022 season, he passed for 1,967 yards with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Like Castellanos, he can also take off on a run for the BC offense. In 2022, he ran the ball 79 times for 233 yards and three touchdowns.

SMU veteran Jared Harrison-Hunte is expecting a grind-it-out type of matchup in the trenches on Saturday. He didn’t explain how the Mustangs would do it, but he expressed confidence in his unit’s plan to stop the BC run game.
“That’s their bread and butter, running the ball,” Harrison-Hunte said on Wednesday. “It’s gonna be another one of those Duke and Pitt games where they’re gonna try to get big on big with us, but that’s nothing new to us, we’re not scared of that. And once again, I’m gonna stand on my… like when I say we’re gonna stop the run, no one’s gonna just run the ball on us, that’s for sure, so we’ll see. I’m not about to say… I ain’t talking about it, but you’ll see what’s happening.”
Before the bye week, in the game against Pitt, SMU held the Panthers to 103 rushing yards. The week prior, Duke had just 98 rushing yards against the Mustangs.
The two sides kickoff on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN. According to the ESPN matchup predictor, SMU has an 87% chance of victory.
