The SMU Mustangs take on the Louisville Cardinals Tuesday night at 8 p.m. inside Moody Coliseum in another key ACC matchup. SMU is coming off a 117-74 win at Miami on Saturday.

Louisville enters the game on an eight-game win streak that includes seven straight conference wins. The Cardinals most recently beat Virginia 81-67, joining the Mustangs with a sweep of the Cavaliers on the year.

“Louisville is playing extremely well right now,” SMU head basketball coach Andy Enfield said. “They’re playing confidently, they’re very physical and they have a lot of guys offensively that can score the ball and defensively, they’ve been playing at a high level so I think they’re playing like a complete team right now. We’ll have to be good on both sides of the ball.”

This is the 11th meeting between the two programs and the first since two meetings as American Athletic Conference opponents in 2013-14 (UL won both). The Cardinals lead the series, 8-2.

Spread for SMU vs. Louisville

Ahead of the matchup, SMU is listed as a 1.5-point favorite over Louisville, per FanDuel on Tuesday. The Mustangs are also currently listed at -128 for the moneyline. As for Louisville, the Cardinals are at +106 on the moneyline.

The point total for the game is currently set at 157.5 points. SMU is 9-9-0 ATS this season while Louisville is 11-8.

SMU has won three straight and 10 of the past 12 games. Part of that effort is an improvement on the defensive end of the floor. While the Mustangs rolled offensively at Miami, Enfield is proud of the defensive improvement from his team.

“Our goal this year was to improve defensively from the beginning of the season,” Enfield said Monday. “We had a lot of new guys. We have made big improvements. I thought we played as hard as we have all season in Charlottesville on Wednesday night defensively. Then obviously on Saturday, we had our offense rolling. We were making shots, sharing the ball, 28 assists. I think in the ACC, you have to try to win different ways at times because they’re different styles, each team is different and your team doesn’t play as well offensively some nights as others.

“Our goal at the beginning of the season was to get our defense to a level where we can win games when we’re not shooting the ball very well like we didn’t on Wednesday night. Very proud of our team. To hold them to 51 and 52 points in our two games is a credit to our players. They really bought in and have improved significantly on the defensive end.”

SMU is averaging 84.8 points (1st ACC, 15th NCAA) while shooting 48.2% (1st ACC, 32nd NCAA) overall and 38.6% on threes (2nd ACC, 20th NCAA). The Mustangs are also leading the ACC in total rebounds (40.3, 23rd NCAA), offensive rebounds (13.5, 29th NCAA) and bench points (30.6, 21st NCAA).
