SMU faces its first West Coast trip under Lashlee during the regular season and will have to get emotionally ready after its bye week. Next week, SMU will head to Duke for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff, but this week is the focus for the Mustangs and teams have had to travel great distances to play West Coast teams in the past.

“Over the last two years I feel like we’ve had a good balance of early and late games,” Lashlee said. “Usually, as a coach, you worry about early games, but thankfully we’re a morning practice team, so that doesn’t seem to be an issue. Especially if you’re at home you like night games, better crowds, better atmosphere. I don’t think it matters. When you’re going to fly all the way back from the west coast and lose time, sure you’d like to go out there at noon, like I think Virginia Tech got to do. But it doesn’t matter. Teams have been doing it for years, going to PAC 12 schools and playing.

“Everyone’s got parts of their schedule that are more positive and others that are more challenging. Back-to-back road games on each coast, I like the challenge. You don’t really need to worry about the travel back and the next game until we worry about this game anyway. We need to go play well against Stanford.”
