BREAKING: Texas A&M OL transfer PJ Williams commits to SMU
Texas A&M true freshman transfer offensive lineman PJ Williams has committed to SMU, his attorney Coby Dubose confirmed in a statement on Tuesday. Williams is a former Top 100 prospect oozing with upside, if he is able to get back on track on the Hilltop.
Williams took an official visits to Colorado and Houston after taking a visit to SMU before the early signing period.
The former four-star prospect out of Dickinson (Texas) High appeared in just one game in his one season in College Station. Dickinson was suspended mid-season along with three other members of the team after violating team rules. The suspension that came in October was indefinite, per Jimbo Fisher.
He was also arrested for marijuana possession, according to a College Station police report. 7.7 ounces were found in a backpack with Williams’ name on it, being a felony-level charge.
Dubose, who has been counsel to Williams since December, helped him agree to a plan that’ll dismiss the charges against him, if Williams follows the plan of the diversion arrangement.
“I have had the opportunity to investigate PJ Williams’s case and discuss his situation with the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office,” the statement said. “To resolve his arrest in November, PJ has been offered and has accepted a diversion arrangement, which will allow him to better himself and his community.
“In exchange, the District Attorney’s Office has agreed not to prosecute this case if PJ is able to successfully complete their program. When PJ successfully completes this program, this case will be finished and behind him.
“I have met with PJ and his family, and know him to be a humble, talented kid. Offers to write letters of support have flooded in from former coaches, teachers, administrators, and those in the Dickinson and College Station communities who know him. I thank the District Attorney’s Office for recognizing what I’ve seen in PJ – that he has a bright future ahead of him and he should be offered the opportunity to improve himself and pursue that future.

“PJ is excited to handle his business and put this situation behind him, and he is appreciative of the coaches who have offered him another opportunity. I look forward to seeing PJ grow as a person, as a student, and as a football player on Saturdays at SMU.”
High school scouting report on new SMU commit PJ Williams
“Owns the best combination of length and athleticism among offensive tackles in the 2022 cycle. Has a lean build with extreme length, sporting a 7-foot wingspan. Posted strong combine numbers in change of direction and straight-line speed prior to his senior season. His length has given top pass rushers issues in camp settings.
“Much leaner than many other top offensive tackles but has functional play strength with an impressive ability to anchor on contact. Has added weight to his frame, gaining at least 20 to 30 pounds prior to his senior season. Upping his play as a senior with the added weight and strength. Finishing blocks with authority and continuing to show his athleticism at the second level.
“Can continue improving his ankle flexion. Will likely need a redshirt year but has some of the higher long-term upside among 2022 offensive tackles.”
Williams was rated as a four-star prospect in the 2022 class, ranked as the No. 64 overall prospect and No. 6 offensive tackle in the nation. He chose the Aggies over Texas, LSU, Michigan, Penn State, and numerous others.
