SMU landed a commitment from Tulane transfer defensive back Kevaris Hall, he announced on Twitter on Tuesday. The Red Oak, Texas native has four years of eligibility remaining after redshirting in 2021 with just two appearances.

He played in nine games as a true freshman in 2020, totaling seven tackles, one sack for a loss of 10 yards and one interception against Southern Miss.

SMU now has 16 transfers committed, signed or enrolled for the 2022 season after Kevaris Hall committed. SMU added Navarro defensive tackle Mike Sandjo-Nijiki, Texas safety Chris Adimora, Mississippi State wide receiver Teddy Knox, Texas wide receiver Kelvontay Dixon, Texas defensive lineman David Abiara, Louisiana-Monroe safety Nick Roberts and Oklahoma State linebacker Kamryn Farrar.

Hall joins a group for Rickey Hunley, Jr. that’s looking to bounce back from a tough 2021 season. Hunley has expectations for his group, which includes playing with an aggressive edge.

“We’re going to be aggressive. We play aggressive,” Hunley told On The Pony Express. “Our man technique is aggressive, but it’s also got to be a cognitive piece. It’s going to put them in position. There’s some things that I firmly believe in that will allow us to make plays. Usually, guys are a little hesitant. Right now, they’re probably doing it more than I want. We talk about competitive excellence and then that competitive ignorance sneaks in as well.

“Understanding situations and what they should be doing, but technically, hand placement, the way they’re moving their feet, the aggressiveness that we use when we’re in our man technique particularly, they’ve done a really good job with.”

Tevaris Hall ranked as a three-star prospect for the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The No. 135 overall cornerback in the nation held offers from Kansas, Houston, Rutgers and others.
