Ty Hawkins now top-ranked 2025 QB in Texas
2025 San Antonio (Tex.) Johnson quarterback Ty Hawkins is now the No. 1 signal caller in Texas, according to On3’s latest rankings update on Monday.
The four-star prospect comes in as the No. 57 overall prospect, No. 6 quarterback nationally and No. 11 overall prospect in Texas. On3 director of scouting Charles Power sees what programs around Texas like SMU have seen to offer early.
“Ty Hawkins is coming off a big debut season at San Antonio Johnson High and looks like the top 2025 quarterback prospect in Texas at this juncture and checks in at No. 57,” Power said. “The 6-foot, 188-pounder is an athletic playmaker with good arm strength and plus mobility. Hawkins has the juice to make far has throws and rip off long runs when the play breaks down. He’s a bigger-framed quarterback despite his 6-foot height and has a 9.75-inch hand.
“Hawkins threw for 2,167 yards and 30 touchdowns and ran for 920 yards and eight more scores as a junior. He’s also registered as one of the more athletic 2025 passers on the camp circuit this spring, running a 4.69 second 40-yard dash, 4.26 second short shuttle and jumping 35.8 inches in the vertical.”
TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor, Houston and UTSA have also offered.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, he’s the No. 212 overall prospect in the country, No. 16 quarterback nationally and No. 34 overall prospect in Texas.

SMU pushing for Ty Hawkins
The Mustangs are pushing heavily for Hawkins, who visited for a spring practice. Head coach Rhett Lashlee, quarterbacks coach Jonny Brewer and others on staff are hoping the push pays off for the in-state quarterback.
“Had a great time at SMU. I really liked all of the coaches especially coach Brewer and coach Lashlee,” Hawkins told On3 earlier this spring. “I really liked the campus. My sister ran track there so it’s always good seeing it again. I feel like they really know how to coach quarterbacks and that sounds good for me.”
Hawkins was named District 28-6A Offensive MVP after his sophomore season. UTSA leads the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine over SMU and Texas Tech. He doesn’t have a timeframe for a decision just yet.
