Head coach Rhett Lashlee is ready for his team to take the next step in their development, which means winning big.
“We can have a lot of potential, but all potential means is you haven’t done it yet,” Lashlee said on Friday. “I like our team. I like the makeup of our team. I like the talent on our team. I like the depth, size, look, feel. Adversity’s going to come with injuries and all kinds of other things. We’ll have to overcome that just like everybody else does, but we’ve started at a good point. Nothing really matters other than, ‘Do you go out and perform and win?’ That’s the process that we’re undertaking.”
Mustangs ready for Year 2 of Lashlee era at SMU
The Mustangs are gearing up for the second season under Lashlee’s direction. SMU finished 7-6 in 2023, appearing in the New Mexico Bowl against BYU. Lashlee is the first SMU coach to lead the team to a bowl appearance in his first season since the 1980s.
