SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee met with the media on Wednesday to recap the win over North Texas and look ahead to Memphis. Check out his full thoughts in the video and why Memphis is a tough opponent.

“Good football team. I think Ryan (Silverfield) has done a really good job, they’re 8-2. They’ve played a really good schedule. You look at their two losses to Top 25 teams, one’s a Top 10 team and both of them are really tight games,” Lashlee said. “They know how to win, they find ways to win and that’s all that matters. Nobody cares about how many you win by they find ways to win. They’re really good on offense, on defense they’re just as good as our defense, basically, on third down defense, they’re both Top 10 in the country.

“They’re great at turnovers, I think they’ve got like four Pick 6s for touchdowns this year. They’re really opportunistic on defense, they get off the field on third down and they’ve got good players. Memphis has kind of been the gold standard in this league year in year out. They’ve won some championships, but even the years they don’t they’ve been the most consistent program in the American since its inception and so we’ve got a lot of respect for their program, but this team in particular that Ryan has.”

SMU kicks off on Saturday against Memphis at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2 looking to remain unbeaten in league play and move one step closer to an AAC Championship. The Mustangs are 8-2 on the year and are sitting unbeaten in the American Athletic Conference at 6-0.
