WATCH: Rhett Lashlee previews SMU vs. Tulane
SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee met with the media on Wednesday to preview SMU’s matchup with Tulane in the AAC Championship Game on Saturday. Check out the video for his full press conference ahead of the matchup.
SMU extended the contract of Lashlee on Monday, announcing a deal that’ll keep him on the Hilltop for the foreseeable future. Lashlee’s deal now runs through 2029 and he’s excited about that.
“It means a lot that the administration wants us here. Everybody in life wants to feel wanted. We’re excited about what we’re doing here,” Lashlee said. “I think it’s good, it speaks to our staff, they want our staff here. When, as a head coach, when you get an extension, they talk about you, it’s really they want our staff here. They believe in the vision and what we’re doing and the culture we’ve built. And it’s great stability for our players. Especially here over the past five or six years, there’s been some up and down with that, as far as all through college football, so it’s awesome to be able to provide that to our guys.
“Rick Hart and I started talking after the North Texas game so really credit our administration, they were behind us before we even went to Memphis. The conversation had been ongoing, we just announced it and got everything to where everybody was on the same page by Monday, but we’ve been planning this for a couple of weeks. This is where I wanted to be, fortunately this is where they wanted me to be. I don’t know what our players think, but they didn’t boo me or anything so I think we’re good.”
