WATCH: Rhett Lashlee recaps SMU win over Charlotte
SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee met with reporters after his team’s 34-16 win on Saturday over Charlotte. Check out the interview with the coach of the Mustangs.
“I thought the first half, really good. I thought we controlled the game, other than the one long run which we tracked down,” Lashlee told reporters. “We contained the quarterback, which was a concern. The first half good, like I said we held them, they got down inside the 5 or close one time and didn’t get anything, the other time they had to kick a field goal. Really good first half.”
The Mustangs let off the gas at times in the 2nd half, which Lashlee wasn’t thrilled about. Overall though, a double-digit conference win is something he and the Mustangs will take.
“Second half, I think it’s human. We score to go up 24-3, we were driving again and we did something to have to kick a field goal make it 27-3. I think we probably relaxed a little bit, but credit them, they switch quarterbacks, he played well. But they really just ran the ball on us better than then we want people to do. It’s hard when you’re you’re preparing for two QBs, two offensive, but, man, we don’t want somebody to run for whatever they ran for which was 167. Now, 42 carries, but still that’s that’s more than we want to give up. And so those last two drives that they scored on, we want to be better. But you hold somebody to 16 points in the league you should win and overall I think it was good.”

The Mustangs now head into a bye week with the next game scheduled for Oct. 12 on the road at East Carolina.
“We’re going on the road. East Carolina is arguably, maybe, the toughest place to play on the road in our league,” Lashlee said. “We’ve got to go get a road win. And we’ve got four of them left on the road and if we want to put ourselves in contention we have to win a lot on the road. So I think it was huge for some confidence to get that winning feeling back going into this bye week.”
