SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee met with the media after the 45-21 win over North Texas on Friday inside Ford Stadium. Check out the full video of what Lashlee had to say.
“If Kevin would have played, we were going to call the same plays. We’ve got that much faith in both of those guys,” Lashlee said. “So we wrapped the game plan Monday and Tuesday and then by Thursday, Preston got to go full speed and throw it. We felt good about the plan. Now, they’ve struggled against the run, so yeah, that was a part of the idea. I think we had 58 carries. If you can have 58 carries, that means your defense is getting off the field.
“We were going lean on that because that’s kind of what they give you and that’s what they’ve struggled with and but it didn’t have anything to do with Preston’s injury he was full go when he decided to play.”
SMU kicks off on Saturday against Memphis at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2 looking to remain unbeaten in league play and move one step closer to an AAC Championship. The Mustangs are 8-2 on the year and are sitting unbeaten in the American Athletic Conference at 6-0.
