WATCH: Rhett Lashlee recaps SMU win over Tulsa
SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee met with the media on Saturday after the 69-10 win over Tulsa for Homecoming. Watch what he had to say as the Mustangs became bowl eligible.
“Now, really the challenge is, we’ve got to keep our guys hungry. I feel good about the maturity of that, but we’ve got to come out ready to play,” Lashlee told reporters. “Rice is playing really good football and I know they’re about to play now, but they’re playing really good football and we’re going to go on the road again. We’ve just got to take it one week at a time and so far those guys have been able to do that.”
SMU quarterback Preston Stone is gaining confidence and in just a half, set a career mark for passing yards by completing 15-of-20 passes for 371 yards and three touchdowns.

“He’s trusting the teammates. He’s improving each week, getting the ball out of his hands quicker. The quick game has been a lot better, the relief game on the perimeter,” Lashlee said. “And so now you couple that with, he is just confident in what we’re doing. He knows where to go with the football. He’s doing a good job of being aggressive and taking care of it and so hopefully his confidence will just grow and grow each week. I thought he had the same look in his eye as he had last week against Temple and he was just in total control and totally confident.”
Next up for Lashlee’s Mustangs is that matchup with Rice on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU as the Mustangs hopes to match their win total from 2022.
