WATCH: Rhett Lashlee talks staff changes, SMU-Boston College
SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee met with the media to preview the Wasabi Fenway Bowl against Boston College on Thursday at 10 a.m. CT on ESPN. Check out the video and some of the quotes from Lashlee on the Golden Eagles.
Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos is dynamic with the ball in his hands and the Mustangs will need to slow down the run game overall. The Golden Eagles enter the game 6-6 overall and will head to Dallas next season in SMU’s first year of ACC play.
“Really big, physical offensive line. They love to run the ball and then throw shots deep. They run it well enough, they gain two, three, four yards,” Lashlee said last week. “They very rarely get stopped for no gain or go backwards. So, it’s hard to get negative plays and get them off schedule. The quarterback transferred from Central Florida. Remember him coming out of high school, I believe out of South Georgia.
“He’s really electric. He’s got a big arm, he can make throws, but boy, he scares you running the football. Not only on design runs, just dropping back and creating. So, that’s the concern for our defense.”

Defensively, Boston College is a sound group fundamentally. SMU will have the return the physicality the Golden Eagles bring with their own hard-nosed brand of football.
“For us offensively, Coach Hafley is a defensive guy by trade, really good history,” Lashlee said. “They’re really sound, they don’t do a lot, but they do it well. They’re physical, they run to the ball, they hit.”
SMU enters the game 11-2 overall and champions of the American Athletic Conference.
