WATCH: Scott Symons previews SMU-Boston College
SMU defensive coordinator Scott Symons met with the media to preview the Wasabi Fenway Bowl against Boston College on Thursday at 10 a.m. CT on ESPN. Check out the video and some of the quotes from Symons on the Golden Eagles.
SMU was able to rest up after a physical season that ended in an American Athletic Championship game win over Tulane.
“If nothing else, the physical part, just a long season all the way through a conference championship. It was a tough, physical year. We didn’t have as much depth maybe at some spots,” Symons said. “So I think, from that aspect, that was huge. Then obviously, mentally just to be able to recharge a little bit and finish up school hopefully strong. Then, enjoy us getting to go on a little trip for a good bowl game. Most of our guys never been to Boston, I’ve never been to Boston. So, it’ll be a cool experience for us and so I think they’re excited about it.”
Now, Symons’ group will look to finish strong and put an exclamation mark on the best defensive season for SMU since the 1980s. A 12th win for the program would be big for numerous reasons.

“When was the last time we went 12 games here, is that ever? it’s been forever, right? So I think us getting to 12 wins is a big deal. I think us finishing the season with momentum moving forward is a big deal,” Symons said. “I think us sending our seniors out the right way is a big deal. So I expect our guys to compete and put their best foot forward. I hope by the time we get to kickoff time, our guys pour everything into this.
“I think that we have that type of leadership and culture right now where I feel like our guys are gonna go out there and play for each other because they love playing for each other. So, it’s a big deal to me. It’s a big deal to our guys and we wanna finish it the right way.”
