WATCH: Scott Symons previews SMU-North Texas
SMU defensive coordinator Scott Symons met with the media on Tuesday to look back on the Rice game and preview the matchup against North Texas.
“I think, one, they’ve got playmakers that at every level starting with quarterback position,” Symons said of SMU’s opponent this week. “Two quarterbacks that can really run, obviously we know who the primary guy is, but guys that can extend plays with their feet, have the ability to run the football. Both throw the ball really well. And then when you go on the outside, I think their at speed receiver, I think it’s the best group of receivers that we’ve played since Oklahoma, which when you think about it, that’s including TCU.
“I think these guys are are better talent-wise and what they do schematically with them, so the speed of the receivers. The running backs are downhill, run the ball really hard. I think they’re O-line’s a good pass, run blocking crew and can pass set for what they ask them to do. And then just the tempo and the pace that they play with, too.”
SMU kicks off on Friday against North Texas at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2 looking to remain unbeaten in league play and move one step closer to an AAC Championship. The Mustangs are 7-2 on the year and are sitting unbeaten in the American Athletic Conference at 5-0.
