WATCH: SMU QB commit Keldric Luster stars in McKinney win

2023 McKinney (Tex.) quarterback Keldric Luster committed to SMU over the summer, giving the Mustangs their signal caller for the recruiting class. This fall, he’s in Year 1 at McKinney High after transferring from Frisco (Tex.) Liberty in the offseason.

On Friday, he starred with nearly 500 total yards of offense in a thrilling 60-51 win over Denton (Tex.) Braswell. The win moved the Lions to 5-1, eclipsing their win total from the 2021 season already. The two teams combined for 1,386 total yards and 67 first downs.

Keldric Luster threw for three scores and 385 yards while running for 92 yards and a touchdown, which opened the second half scoring. The impressive showing allowed McKinney to come back and beat the Bengals, who jumped out to early 14-0 and 21-7 leads. Check out the exclusive highlights from On The Pony Express below.

Keldric Luster keys impressive SMU recruiting class

On3 ranks Luster as the No. 65 quarterback nationally and No. 152 overall prospect in Texas. Army, Air Force, Indiana, Navy, Austin Peay and Texas Southern are among the offers Luster had on his resume as well.

The Mustangs have 15 other commitments in the class of 2023. Lucas (Tex.) Lovejoy wide receiver Jaxson Lavender started things off before Frisco (Tex.) linebacker Brandon Miyazono and Dallas (Tex.) South Oak Cliff wide receiver Randy Reece jumped on board. In May, athlete Abdul Muhammad joined Reece as SOC teammates committed to SMU.

Luster committed in early June. Shortly after, Houston (Tex.) Jersey Village offensive lineman Reagan Gill and Seminole (Tex.) offensive lineman Rikter Connally committed.

Katy (Tex.) Paetow linebacker Alex Kilgore, DeSoto (Tex.) defensive back Jaden Milliner-Jones, San Antonio (Tex.) Central defensive lineman Braeden Flowers, Austin (Tex.) Vandegrift defensive lineman Daemian Wimberly, Port Saint Lucie (Fla.) Treasure Coast offensive lineman Alex Woods, Valencia (Calif.) West Ranch offensive lineman Sean Scott, Ft. Worth (Tex.) Timber Creek tight end Lonnie Johnson and Frisco (Tex.) Wakeland tight end Tripp Riordan committed to the Mustangs in late June. Wichita Falls (Tex.) Hirschi wideout Jamarion Carroll made waves when he committed to SMU in August.

In 2021, Keldric Luster was the Texas District 7-5A-II Overall MVP as a junior at Frisco Liberty. He completed 245-of-356 passes (68%) for 3,435 passing yards and 30 touchdowns with just four interceptions. He added 182 rushes for 1,579 yards and 23 scores on the ground.
