What Andy Enfield said after SMU beat Tarleton State
Andy Enfield started off his tenure at SMU with a 96-62 win over Tarleton State. Here’s what Enfield said after tonight’s game:
Takeaways from the game: “I thought we started the game with a lot of energy. We played very hard, very good on defense, and we were able to get out on transition and score the ball. I thought our guys played the right wya, they shared the ball, made the right extra pass. And we hit some shots early because we were playing the right way.”
On Kario Oquendo‘s performance tonight: “Well he had the best week of practice, probably of his career. We haven’t been with him the past three of four years, but our whole staff thought that he had a tremendous week. He dedicated himself to playing defense, he had four steals tonight. He is a very gifted scorer and tremendous athlete. But it’s the little things in game that make a difference with him. He can affect winning in so many ways which he did tonight.”

Injury updates: “[Matt Cross] had some back spasms. It happens. We went to him the first play of the game on a post up, there was a little contact, he must have stepped the wrong way. Back tightened up on him, it hasn’t happened all preseason. So, it was unusual… Mitchell [Holmes] should be back in the next few days. He was out with an injury the last 5-6 days.” When talking about Boopie Miller‘s injury, Enfield said, “It was a cramp. I just went over to see if [he] was okay and go back in and he said ‘yes’ and then another cramp came. So we’ll get some fluids in him and hopefully he will be ready by tomorrow.”
On his technical foul: “Well that was my fault. I didn’t expect to get a technical foul in the first game here. But, I was just standing up for Kario. He got hit in the head on the layup and it wasn’t called. But that was my fault, I deserved a technical, made a hand gesture to my head to let the officials know he got hit. But I deserved that and apologize to the official, that was on me.”
