Wichita State transfer wing Corey Washington has committed to Andy Enfield and SMU, he announced. Washington also took an official visit to Mississippi State and Texas A&M was also involved.

Washington gives the Mustangs a punch of toughness and rebounding the basketball as well as some added scoring coming off his best season shooting from beyond the arc.

This year for the Shockers he was second on the team in scoring (13.7 points per game), rebounding (7.5 rebounds per game), double-doubles (9) and steals (34). He started 33 of all 34 games on WSU’s schedule. Washington was Second-Team All-AAC this season. He shot a career-best 34.7 percent from three-point range.

Washington started his career at Saint Peter’s, where he averaged 15.9 points per game for the Peacocks in 2023-24. Washington put together a solid freshman season upon his arrival at Saint Peter’s for the 2022-23 season, earning MAAC All-Freshman Team honors as he averaged 6.8 points and 4.9 rebounds.

SMU’s also added coveted shooting guard Jaron Pierre from Jacksonville State, who scored the most points in Division I Basketball last season. The Mustangs reeled in Brown transfer forward Nana Owusu-Anane as well before the postseason transfer portal window even opened.

SMU’s now tight on spots, but with retaining Boopie Miller, BJ Edwards and Samet Yigitoglu, the program is now positioned to once again be in the top half of the ACC.
